LATE NIGHT OPENING......

Hello Ladies

Hope you are all well and getting to grips the Christmas Shopping!!!!!!!!

Well it is that time of year. I've worked out that I only have 9 days off until Christmas, and that's not including Sunday 23rd!!! I really ought to get my arse into gear and get on with the present buying! Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas and all the buying, wrapping and putting decorations up! But it's coming up with the ideas of what to buy people. The female members of the family are no problem, they're easy and fun to buy for, but my family is dominated by men and boys!!!! Oh hell!!!!!! It's just so hard!!! My husband is a joy to buy for and I always have far too many ideas for him. So I have 14 male members of the family to buy for and only 5 female members of the family!!! I really won't have any hair left this year!!!! So if any of you have got good ideas for teenage/twentysomethings male presents please let me know!!!!

So onto the subject of late night opening....

Petworth does this for one night only! And it is always on the first Saturday in December, so this year it is on Saturday 1st December!!

It is a fantastic day. Yes I didnt type it wrong! The town has special things going on all day.

Let me give you a taster of what's going on....

THERAPY.......

Hello Ladies

Hope you are all well on this lovely sunny Autumn day!

I was just thinking about the name of the shop "Therapy" and how this word can mean different things to different people!

I decided to take a look at Wikipedia and see what they came up with:-

Therapy:- Therapy or treatment, is the attempted remediation of a health problem, usually following a diagnosis. In the medical field, it is synonymous with the word "treatment". Among psychologists, the term may refer specifically to pyschotherapy or "talk therapy".

Retail Therapy:- Retail Therapy is shopping with the primary purpose of improving the buyer's mood or disposition. Often seen in people during periods of depression or transition, it is normally a short-lived habit, items purchased during periods of retail therapy are sometimes referred to as "comfort buys".
Retail therapy was first used as a term in the 1980s with the first reference being this sentence in The Chicago Tribune of Christmas 1986: "We've become a nation measuring out our lives in shopping bags and nursing our psychic ills through retail therapy".

Well I for one don't agree with the one about retail therapy! What do you think?

I know when I go shopping I am partaking in retail therapy, I am not depressed or going through a period of transition, I am doing something different to my job or just being at home. I am enjoying the atmosphere, the chat, the looking, the touching and the fact that I am somewhere different. I think the sentence that appeared in the newspaper is very narrow-minded for the century we live in now and the term retail therapy has changed completely! It is the new word for SHOPPING!!!!!!!!!!!! Something us housewives have had to do for years!

But then calling the shop Therapy has come to mean something different to me as well. When I first started working here I just thought "oh yes, retail therapy" and that was that. But now nearly seven years on it is something else.

We have our regular customers who pop in maybe two or three times a week and customers who only come in three or four times a year, but each of them comes in for a little
therapy! Be it "retail" or "talk therapy"! It makes us really happy to think that our customers feel comfortable enough with us to yes " get things of their chest" if they need to, even get a hug if they need one or come to see us for a bit of cheering up!
And it has opened my eyes to how a smile or a kind word can mean so much to so many people.

So if you need a little "retail" therapy or some "talk" therapy we are here!

We have just had all our new Avoca Scarves, Gloves and Socks in, they are so soft and snuggly, that they feel like your wearing a hug all the time! All our soft Cashmere knits are flying off the shelves now and won't be around for much longer. So hurry on down to see us.

BECAUSE EVERY WOMAN NEEDS A LITTLE THERAPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take care

HOSIERY.......

Hosiery, Pantyhose, Tights!

Very funny sounding names if you ask me!

But it's got to that time of year when we are thinking of wearing them again. And I must say that in the Winter I find it much warmer to wear a skirt/dress with tights than wearing jeans/trousers with socks! It's all to do with layers!

Now tights do not have to be boring or make an outfit look ordinary, oh no they can be fun and the making of an outfit!

Last winter the big thing was "colour blocking" it was the buzzword of the winter and ever since colour has remained highly topical.
Now I know you're asking, what is colour blocking and what does it mean?
It refers to an especially bold display of contrasting colours: fuchsia set off against white, for instance, or mimosa against cayan or black set off against mint and lilac. Now don't panic I know it sounds extreme, but just think, if you're wearing a dress that falls just below the knee with a pair of boots and you have a pair of tights on in a stunning colour, just imagine the look you'll create as you're getting out of the car, going upstairs or the wind blows......! Now that sounds good doesn't it! The opaque tight is the way to go for this look and we have Jonathan Aston tights in stock now in some fab colours. Some why not pop in and see what colour blocking you can create for your own unique look!

Nothing changes a look as much as hosiery can. Sometimes an oufit has to work for the work day and on into the evening too. Professional for the office, formal for meetings, elegant for dinner and casual for an aperitif. How is this possible? You change your legwear!

But oh the bane of hosiery is the dreaded ladders!!!!!

Here are some tips to hopefully make your hosiery last longer:

1: Choose the correct size. This is by no means trivial. Hosiery sizes will often not correspond to clothing sizes. The S, M and L indicators in hosiery equally refer to both width and length.

2: The smoother your nails and the softer your hands, the lower the risk of laddering when putting on your hosiery.

3: They easily get forgotten: your feet. The same applies here as for the hands: file for the nails and cream for the skin.

4: Quality is critical. Check for these: are the toe heel and waistband reinforced?

5: The degree of sheerness is defined by the yarn strength: the sheerer, the more delicate.

6: Patterned tights appear delicate but will often prove more resistant than the classic circular knit with elastane.

7: Avoid all natural enemies of sheer hosiery! Especially the playful cats and dogs. And there is only one thing you can do about non-concealed zips on skirts or unvarnished chair legs! BE CAREFUL!!!!

So go on take the plunge this autumn/winter and buy yourself some fun coloured tights!

Most probably no blog next week as I shall be in Rome and Florence! My first holiday abroad! I'll let you know how I get on!

Take care

THOUGHTS FROM THE PAST......

Hello Ladies

Hope you are all well and enjoying this lovely Autumn weather we're having!

I don't know if any of you went to the Goodwood Revival at the weekend? Myself and my husband go all three days and we have done for a number of years now, it is the one event that we will not miss! It has something for both of us, the cars and the dressing up, my husband loves dressing up and I love cars and visa versa!!!

The fashion from the 40's and the 50's!! Did everyone always look so well put together, did everyone always wear a hat, were the hairstyles always so intricate! How did they manage!

Am I looking at it through Rose tinted spectacles?

Over the weekend I saw so many ladies and men looking wonderful. And I know the effort and thought that would have gone into putting those outfits together. Did the women always look like that when they went out because the majority of women now work and don't have the time to do their hair into complicated styles or have we just lost the knack of doing those styles and now rely on a hairdresser to do them for us when we are going somewhere special? Women also had more time then to make their own clothes and customise their old clothes, oh to be able to do things like that! There were 3 or 4 hairdressing salons at the Revival and they were doing a thriving business, but the amount of pins and hairspray that was being used, and the creations that were walking out of them were stunning! And so many vintage shops, I could have just spent the whole 3 days looking round them, but I would have missed all the racing!! I have got 2 vintage coats that I picked up several years ago, which I wear every year, and to think that they look as good as new and they are over 60 years old is astounding!! The men, the men oh the men!! They looked just as good as the women! Again did they always look so smart? I want one of those things Hermione has in Harry Potter to go back in time and have a good look around and see what your everyday family got up to and how they dressed and did things!! Ooh think of all the things I could buy to wear to Revival next year!!

But and oh yes there must be a but! Going to the loo, not easy!!!

I think the majority of us nowadays would find the clothes from those eras just too, what's the word I'm looking for, rigid, constraining, yes that's the word, constraining for our way of life now. Yes we don't wear as many dresses and skirts as we used to, but have you tried lifting a toddler into the back of a car, or heaving shopping in and out of the car, or climbing up a ladder to clean the windows, not easy in a dress!

Time and fashion have moved on as they must and we can relive those special years through events like The Goodwood Revival and look through our Rose tinted spectacles!!

Here at Therapy we pride ourselves in the knowledge that whatever you buy from us you will always look your best!

So come along and have a look at all our gorgeous heavy knits that have just arrived, they won't be hanging around for long now the weather is turning cooler and the leaves are beginning to drop from the trees!!

If you pop in this week treat me carefully I'm feeling a bit like a zombie today after my 3 days of living in the 40's!!!!

Take care

I'M BACK..........

Hello Ladies

Gosh it seems a long time since I have written the blog, but it's only two weeks, doesn't time fly when you're having fun! My holiday just seems to have gone by in a flash, and I expect you're feeling the same way if you have got children going back to school this week!! All the chaos of last minute bits and pieces they need for the beginning of a new school year, I can remember that I always had to have a new pencil case even if the old one was perfectly ok, and then you find that they have grown 3 or 4 inches over the holidays and their trousers or skirts are too short, more mad dashing around!!!

Well ladies once you have got your children all safely back to school and you have some time to yourselves you really must pop in and see us. The reason being?

Our new season stock is arriving thick and fast! And it is gorgeous!

The colours are out of this world, purple, orange, bottle green, cobalt blue, magenta, burnt red, silver grey and so many more! None of your boring high street staples of brown and black, that they always seem to get in for the Autumn!

We have had 3 new colours of the fab FDJ jeans in, in Forest, Burnt Red, and Purple, so come in early to avoid disappointment, you know how quickly we sell them!

Our famous mesh dresses by Oui are now in, and we've already sold out of one style! And Oui are not doing a remake!! Horrors!

Our new Toni Pons boots are due in this week along with a new make of shoe, which we think are going to be a must have! Our new colour of La Badia pumps are due in at the end of September! I'll keep you posted as to when they arrive!

And I know Laura told you about our new cashmere. Well, it is out of this world, and if you haven't already come along and had a look then you really should, it's just so yummy and snuggly and wrap yourself upable, I know I've just made that word up, but I like the sound of it!

So here's to those lovely sunny Autumn days to come with their chilly mornings and evenings with their low lying mists over the fields and glorious sunsets!

I LOVE AUTUMN!!!!

Take care and see you soon!

Hello Ladies! Just a quick message to say that Louise is on a well earned break this week. Not that that stopped me dragging her to London on Monday to the Pure trade show at Olympia where we were finishing off our buying for next Spring.

I know, if it sounds confusing to you, it is even more so for us. We're clearing the last of our summer stock, putting out new Autumn stock and buying for next year - we don't even know what day it is!

I've added some new photos of some of our Autumn 12 collections. Apologies for my poor photography skills - but at least you can get a flavour of what you will be wearing this winter.

Fortunately our merchandising skills are somewhat better, so do pop in and see what's new. I've already secured a fabulous print mesh dress from Oui which I intend to wear with my summer jeggings and sandals on Saturday. And I even contemplated donning my new gorgeously heavy ribbed cashmere knit this week, but feared I might expire in the heat!

We know you've been crying out for cashmere and we're very excited about the beautiful CSM collection from Germany. The quality is the best we've ever seen and as well as subtle greys and oatmeal we have jewel-like magenta and burnt orange - scrummy.

But we're practical too and appreciate that the Indian summer is still with us. So we have plenty of lightweight tops and jeans in bottle green and brick - big colours for winter. So if you've had enough of the British summer and want to enliven your wardrobe, then we've got loads of lovely clothes to choose from.

Lou will be back after the Bank Holiday weekend with plenty of news. So tune in next week!

FIRST CHANCE........

An an apt title for this weeks blog I think as this is the first chance I've had this week to sit down and "put pen to paper", as we used to say! So my sincere apologies if you checked in on Monday expecting a new blog!

We ended the sale on Saturday, so Monday and Tuesday were spent moving the whole shop around! And let me tell you that is very hard work, especially when it's been as humid as this week! I am now absolutely shattered! So to be able to sit down and write this on a quietish, wet and humid day in the shop is bliss! We do still have a few sale items on the shop floor in the basement so if you are still looking out for a bargain come and have a rummage! We have had more New Season stock in, and very nice it's looking to, and selling quickly as well! Well I think people have given up on Summer and are now definitely onto Autumn mode! It's just so annoying that I cannot put the photos I take with my IPad onto the blog, otherwise you would have had loads of pics of the lovely new clothes we have in to drool over, oh well you'll just have to come in and have a look. And don't forget that we generally only have one of each size, so when it's gone it's gone!!

So as I said, I was shattered after work on Monday and all I wanted to do was get home and put my feet up! But I have recently started Yoga on a Monday evening, and you can guess what I'm going to say! Yep I didn't want to go!! But I had made a commitment to myself and to my teacher to go each week, as she is struggling to get numbers up in this particular class. So I got home about 5.50pm and then had about 45mins until I needed to go out again, I ummed and I aahhed about whether to go or not, and I decided I would. So with a sip of water a change of clothes I was off! And oh, I'm so glad I went as I was the only person there, it must be so disheartening for her, until 10 minutes into the lesson someone arrived late! So that made two!! And as I arrived I thought " well my bodys' not going to get into any of these positions tonight", well it proved me wrong! Not only did my energy seem to reappear but I seemed to be able to bend further, weird! And the time flew by! I still can't do 'Tree' though!! So I wended my way back home, put on my dressing gown and had a lovely bowl of porridge, marvelling at what a wonderful instrument the body is!!

Food for thought!

Take care

Most probably no blog next week as I have got a week off! HOLIDAY!!

LAST WEEK OF THE SALE........

Yes The Sale will end on Saturday 11th August!

The sale seems to have gone really quickly this year, it only seems five minutes ago that we were setting it up! I know the weather hasn't been that great this Summer and it now feels we are nearer Autumn than Summer but you could still pick up some bargains if you are just about to go off on your hols! We have done some further markdowns and added a few new items into the sale. You can get t-shirts as cheap as £5, linen trousers for £40, crop jeggings for £20 and Summer dresses for as little as £30! So do pop down this week because once it's gone it's gone!

We had a move about in the shop on Friday and got some of our lovely new Autumn clothes onto the shop floor, and they look fab, even if I do say so myself! We've had our first deliveries in for Oui, Jackpot and Part Two in some really fab colours, Bottle Green, Cigar and Royal Blue. Why not pop in a have a peek at the new jeans, jeggings, culottes, scrummy knits, tops and scarves. And I mustn't forget to tell you that we've had some of our Part Two and Jackpot t-shirts in, and you know how quickly they go! Many of the knits and tops are still quite lightweight, so with the weather we've been having, you'll be able to wear them straightaway!

Actually I quite like the feel of Autumn coming as more often than not you do get some beautiful weather, clear blue skies, sun shining and still some warmth. But in the early mornings you get that lovely dewy, misty look to everything and the evenings are usually sublime, even if it does get dark a little earlier. And have you noticed that wonderful smell that says Autumn, oohh it just makes you want to stand still with your eyes closed head flung back and take in great deep lungfuls of air and savour everything that we have around us! We are so lucky to live where we do!

So with those few tasters of what is in store for us over the next month or two why not pop into Therapy and see what we can tempt you with!

Take care.

A MARATHON......

Yes a marathon. Why? For a start it took me an age to even get onto the computer to write this blog today as the iPad would not co-operate with me, it didn't want me to write anything, worked out that a button had been pressed that shouldn't have been!!!

Well as you will have worked out my topic this week has been inspired by The Olympics!

Life can be a marathon sometimes and at other times feel like you are running the 100 metres. Sometimes life is such a drag and nothing seems to be going right and everyone wants a piece of you and at others there is so much to do with so little time! But whatever life throws at you it always seems to work out in the end, you just have to have faith in yourself and your abilities!

We heard so much from all those "Doubting Thomas's" about how The Olympic Park wouldn't be ready for the Olympics and how we would fail to live up to The Bejing Olympics of 2008, but we were ready and Danny Boyle showed the world how to put on a show. It made me so proud to be British and made me go quite goose bumperly! How did it make you feel? I just hope that all the athletes keep their heads and have good support around them to fend off the media hype about them winning " gold", let them be, let them enjoy this once in a lifetime experience!

If you sat down at 7pm on Friday evening to watch The Opening Ceremony, then you did a marathon, I watched every second and only turned it off when, I'm sorry if I upset anyone when I say this, Paul McCartney took to the stage! Great idea of Danny Boyle's of a way to clear the arena quickly!! Sorry, but he really is past it!!

In the shop at the moment it really does feel like we are doing the 100 metres, as the sale is in full swing and we've had loads of lovely customers in, OMG Julie Walters has just walked in, that we don't seem to stop from the moment we walk in in the morning until we close the door to go home! If you're still on the hunt for a bargain then we've got some fab ones, pop in and have a look, they're not going to be around for long! Run that 100 metres down to us!

Take care.

TOPSY TURVY.........

It's a topsy turvy old world isn't it?

Last Monday was as cold and wet as a November day and today it's Summer again! But for how long? Who knows! Personally I would like to think that this is the beginning of our Summer! If I think back over the years, August and September are beautiful months with lovely warm sunny days, and well yes I know the evenings are starting to draw in and are slightly cooler, but does it matter? Not really.

We at Therapy have only just started our Sale, but the shops on the High Street have been in Sale since the end of June! So now, when the weather has turned and we all want to go and buy something new and summery, they are full of Autumn clothes or sale summer clothes that are looking very tired! Fear not we still have fab Summer clothes, linen dresses, trousers, tops, cool summer dresses and gorgeous summer shoes! Come along and visit us for a little retail therapy, you know it will do you good!!!

IT'S SALE TIME....

First off I must start with an apology for this weeks blog being late!

As you know I normally write the blog on a Monday but not this week as we had the exciting event of the Olympic Torch Relay coming to Petworth on that day. We decided to open the shop an hour early, at 9.00am, so we could close from 10.00am until 11.00am so we could get a good spot to watch the Torch! Good job we did, as when I arrived at the car park it was already filling up and loads of people were starting to grab the best spots! Oh no what to do? Well my husband was coming in to watch, he thought he would arrive about 10.00am, but I ohoned him to let him know that it would have to be earlier as there would be no parking spaces left or good spots to view from. So he duly arrived at about 9.15am having parked down by the doctors and walked in, also a good exit point for getting back to work, and said he would hold a couple of spaces for Ann and myself. As we got in at 8.30am we had plenty of time to get the shop hoovered and dusted ready for a busy day! We also had orange juice, bucks fizz and shortbread biscuits on the go for any early customers, who much appreciated it as the weather was foul!! Typical English weather! We could feel the excitement building as the minutes ticked by, all the babble of the schoolchildren on their way to Petworth Park to greet the Torch, families with brollies heading for the Square, New Street and East Street! Well at about 9.50am we decided as no-one was now coming into the shop we would close and grab our spot! With Macs on and brollies up we found my husband, looking suitably soggy, and started to wait. Well it poured down, but spirits were high and the excitement was growing even more. A few odd policemen on bikes came through the square and got a big cheer! We had a security man near us and we could hear what was happening over his walkie-talkie, which was good. We then got to hear a lot of cheering and music as the Torch made it's way into Petworth Park, it was nearly here, and the rain had sort of stopped! Finally the sponsors vehicles came through the Square, then loads of policemen on motorbikes and pushbikes! And then the Torch, carried by a lovely young girl, who looked like she was having a ball, what an experience for her! And then it was all over, and we made a mad dash back to open the shop back up for all those soggy people who were going to come in! And come in they did for orange juice, bucks fizz and...... THE SALE!!!

Yes THE SALE started on Saturday 15th July.....

Did you get the e-mail about it? If not, then you're not on our e-mail list and you need to be, you are missing out. If you would like to be on it either pop into the shop and jot it down on our list, and have a good rummage in all the lovely sale things at the same time, or leave it as a comment on the blog or leave it on our website.

Do pop along to our sale as we do have lots of bargains! We've even got some La Badia shoes in the sale and they never go in the sale!

See you soon

THE BEACH.......

Before I start the blog proper I just want to say a big "Thank You" to all our lovely customers who supported Independence Week, we had a great week and hope you all managed to get those yearned for things with 10% off!

The other week when Laura and I went up to the big smoke on the train to do a buying appointment we bought a magazine to read on the way back and this article caught our eye! So true! So enjoy......

Blasé on the beach...

I have just returned from holiday with two middle-aged female friends. It was gloriously relaxing, but perhaps the most relaxing aspect was that none of us cared a whit about how we looked. There were no frantic pre-holiday 'get bikini-ready' diets, no exhausting comparisons of 'Oh my god, her thighs are thinner than mine' and no planning for the perfect holiday wardrobe. As far as I was concerned, the only essential part of the perfect holiday wardrobe turned out to be a large box of PG Tips, because builder's tea is a luxury I simply cannot live without.
So there we were, slouching around in all our lumpy, bumpy glory. No make-up, no hair straighteners, no dressing for dinner - unless you call knotting a sarong getting dressed. It was so liberating that, for the first time in years, I climbed into a bikini, blissfully unselfconscious about my body, which, with the advent of children and the passing of time, is no longer as bikini-ready as it used to be. In fact, there was a time when the very idea of a bikini used to send it, and me, into a state of shock.
I guess we all know that the fastest track to unhappiness is comparing ourselves to others but when there are no comparisons (or rather, judgements) to be made, all our feelings of not being good enough fly out of the window or, in this case, out into the wide blue Caribbean yonder. Those friends could not have cared less that my tummy now resembles a tea bag after the rigours of pregnancy or that the skin on my thighs and arms is heading south, in a gentle slide that even the politest observer might describe as looking like crepe paper.
Despite the tea bags (a holiday preoccupation, obviously), nobody else on the beach gave a damn what I looked like, either, probably because, just as I had once been, they were more concerned about the way they looked rather than the sight of a middle-aged woman idling along the sea shore. But it did make me wonder why I had spent all those years fretting about the way I appeared in a swimsuit rather than enjoying the freedom of sand between my toes.
I fretted at 46, I fretted at 36 and I even fretted at 26, but now, when I look back at old photographs, I see an acceptable body - not perfect, but perfectly acceptable - and although I am a firm believer that regret is a pointless waste of time and energy, I can't help but mourn the fact that I did not enjoy what I had when I had it.
Now I am 56 and I really don't want to look back in 10 years' time and ask myself what the hell I was doing sunk in self-consciousness rather than wallowing in an azure blue sea.
My body, although ageing, is still strong and serves its purpose well. The element in which I feel happiest is water; after a childhood living overseas, I can swim like a fish ( my mother says I could swim before I could walk) so every day, I swam and swam. My body was happy and I was happy and if there is any greater bliss than the harmony of body and mind, I really don't know what it might be.
And although, apart from swimming and reading, I spent most of the holiday comatose under a palm tree, it was a proper wake-up call to enjoy what I have rather than mourning what I don't.
So, hello to imperfection and let those of us lucky enough to enjoy strong, healthy bodies celebrate them - lumps, bumps and all.

Thank you to Sally Brampton for her words of wisdom. Sally is a journalist, novelist and agony aunt. She has a column in the Psychologies magazine which this article came from.

So ladies I think we should all learn from this and celebrate our wonderful bodies!

Take care and don't forget next Monday we shall be opening at 9am as the Olympic Torch is in Petworth on that morning! Excited......

10% OFF EVERYTHING...........

Now you are asking yourself why we are giving 10% off everything!

Well it's something called "Independents Day". Have you heard about it? No! Well let me explain......

Independents Day is a national campaign aimed at celebrating the UK's independent retailers. Independents Day encourages the public to buy at least one thing from their local, independent shop on this day.

The campaign highlights the important role smaller, local, independent retailers play in the communities they serve, the local economy they contribute to, and in the retail sector as a whole.

Independents Day flies the flag for local retailers: the ones who help make our villages, towns and cities so special. It's about championing diversity on the high street and recognising the skills behind the shopfront.

This is the second year of the "Independents Day" campaign and once again the independent retailers in Petworth have entered into the spirit of it by celebrating it for a week. You will see all our independent stores decked out in Red, White and Blue in some form or another, so keep your eyes open! We at Therapy are giving our wonderful loyal customers 10% off everything for the week!! Yes you read that correctly 10% off everything for a week.

I'VE NO IDEA.....

So here I am, it's Monday again and I just don't know where the last week has gone! I've been sitting here now for about ten minutes trying to think of what to write about this week and I'm coming up with zilch! I've had a busy morning changing everything in the windows and on the mannequins in the shop, then it was lunch and now it's 3 o'clock and my mind is blank, I think I must have used up all of today's brain cells. And on top of that I've got my first yoga class tonight, I just hope I don't fall asleep in it. Life is just too busy sometimes! Lets take a look at my coming week....

Tomorrow I'm into work until 12.30pm, then I have to dash home grab a bite to eat, catch the 1.20pm train to Portsmouth for an interview for my passport at 3.00pm, my very first one, as we are off to Rome and Florence in October. Hope it doesn't take too long as I have to get back home sharpish to cook tea early as my husband has got a group of 20 people for a talk and tour around the gardens at 6.45pm!!!!!!!!

Wednesday we are off on a buying trip to London at 8.30am,this is for Spring/Summer 2013!!!! When we get back later that afternoon I then have food shopping to do as my husband and one of my stepsons are off to the Goodwood Festival of Speed for four days. I need to be back in time for said stepson to arrive to stay for 3 days!!!

Thursday a brief respite of a day at work! Bliss! But said husband and stepson would have got up at 6.00am to get off bright and early to the FOS. So before work it's take the 3 dogs out for a walk and feed them and the 3 cats! Shower, dry hair etc. Take the dogs to the person looking after them for the day.

Friday is another buying trip to London with the added jobs of Thursday as second day of FOS!!!

Saturday is my day off this week but shall have all the house cleaning, washing, dog walking, food shopping etc to do.

So all in all it's no wonder the weeks fly by and I have no brain cells left.

But needless to say Therapy is still here and looking as wonderful as ever with loads of scrummy clothes, shoes, jewellery, handbags and gifts for you to buy. So while your husbands or boyfriends are at the FOS come and spend some 'you' time with us. Petworth has some fantastic shops and lots of fab cafes, restaurants and delis for you to refuel at. It really is well worth a visit. Petworth is the place to take life at a slower pace and relax.

Look forward to meeting you all.

IT'S RAINING AGAIN.......

Where oh where is the Summer? This is supposed to be 'Flaming June'! I'm really fed up with this weather now and I'm someone who doesn't like the Summer! Come on give us a break and let's have some sun and blue skies! And for longer than a week please! I haven't even put away my Winter clothes yet and the majority of my Summer clothes are wondering why they haven't seen the light of day yet! Well this week I am determined to get all my Winter clothes packed away and am confident that when I have done that the sun is going to show it's face for the rest of the Summer!!! So with that in mind here are some tips for those of you who will be doing the same job as me this week....

BEFORE YOU PUT IT AWAY......

BOOTS

Ideally any repairs that need doing should be done before you put your boots away for the Summer! Another good tip is to coat them in polish, but do not rub it off, as the polish feeds and protects the leather during the Summer months. Another must is to store them with wooden boot trees or stuffed with newspaper in the foot and plastic trees for the legs,as this keeps them in good shape and stops horrible creases around the ankles!

SHOES

Leather shoes that get a lot of wear will benefit from being stored for the Summer with untreated shoe trees. Untreated shoe trees will absorb sweat and dampness from the leather but plastic or varnished shoe trees are not absorbent. If your shoes have a watermark line on the leather, rub it with a cut potato and then polish to remove the mark. Hairspray will take pen marks out of leather items.

HATS

Hats can be stored one inside the other with the widest brim at the bottom inside a big hatbox. Be very vigilant for moths as they love felt and fur hats! If a hat gets out of shape, reshape it over the steam from a kettle.

KNITWEAR

Shave bobbles off knitwear with a sharp razor or buy one of those special battery operated de-bobbling gadgets. Handwash your cashmere before storing for the Summer, I find dry cleaning it can make it go hard! The best way to get excess water out after washing is to roll it up in a towel and press down on it really hard and then to dry flat. If you add a capful of vinegar to your final rinse for woollens it will make them more fluffy!

BRAS

Remember to put your bras inside the leg of an old stocking before you pop them into the washing machine, as this protects them from being twisted. Underwired bras are finished with little plastic caps, so don't wash or dry on high temperatures as the caps will melt and the wires will poke through the fabric!

HANGERS

If you store your clothes by hanging rather than storing flat, remember to use the correct hanger for the garment. It is always a good idea to store all knitwear flat, hanging will cause stretching and the shoulders to become misshapen, if you must hang then use a padded hanger. For coats and jackets use hangers with wide, shaped shoulders. For heavy skirts try and use padded clip hangers as these will not make horrible marks on the fabric. For suits always use a proper suit hanger with padded clips.

I know all this seems a lot of trouble to go to but your clothes will always look better if they are stored correctly. And also if you have spent a lot of money on something you want it to last!

So next week will be sunshine all round!!!!!! Here's hoping!!!! Fingers crossed!!!!!

PETWORTH........

So we've had the 'Diamond Jubilee' long weekend and may I just say wasn't it the most wonderful, uplifting, proud to be British, tear in the eye, wow moment we've had for a long time. And The Queen so deserved all the attention she was given, what a wonderful woman.

Petworth got into the spirit of the moment with every shop decked out in Red, White and Blue. We had two windows all patriotic with flags, bunting and all the mannequins wearing Red, White and Blue! If you missed us looking so good I'm leaving them in for another week, so pop along and have a look. The Party in the Square on Sunday was a great success and the weather even stayed fine. There was singing, dancing, children's entertainment,an old fashioned carousel, fun and laughter, Willie Austin and picnics galore! Where were you?

As we are now in the mood to keep this festive fun feeling going for the rest of the summer I have found a few things going on in Petworth that you might want to come and be part of......

Sunday 10th June, Petworth Park, 'Spot the Spaniel' this is an invitation to anyone who has a Spaniel to come and have a fun day in the park where there will be all things Spaniel going on, non Spaniels are more than welcome. Normal grounds admission price.

Sunday 17th June, 2-6pm, Petworth Town, 'Petworth Secret Gardens'. This is a must, if you haven't done it before you must. You just wouldn't believe the gardens that are hidden behind the houses in Petworth, some you wouldn't even think had a garden. They are stunning! And every time I've done it the weather has been glourious! Tickets are £5, and this price gets you into all of the gardens.

Monday 2nd July - Sunday 8th July, 'Independents Week'. This is a week for celebrating all the wonderful independent shops in Petworth. Last year was the first year it was held and it was a great success. With all the publicity that Mary Portas has had about independent shops please come along during that week to see what Petworth and ourselves have to offer!

'PETWORTH FESTIVAL' 12th July - 28th July. Not to be missed, but tickets are selling very quickly for all the various events that are going on, so get on the phone, the computer or pop into the box office. The Festivals reputation is growing each year and is definitely one to put on your calendar for next year!

Saturday 14th July, Petworth Park, 'Fete in the Park' this kicks off the Petworth Festival and is lots of fun.

Monday 16th July, 'The Olympic Torch' comes to Petworth!!!!! A once in a lifetime experience! Check out the local paper or the Olympic website to see the route and times. But Petworth is going to be buzzing. Get those flags out again and come and cheer, shout and have some fun. Afterwards there is plenty to do in Petworth and lots of lovely cafes to have a well deserved cuppa and a cake. And then lots of wonderful shops to look around!

So that's just a taste of what we have to offer for the next couple of months, I haven't even mentioned August and September! So let's keep the feel good factor going!!!!!

Next time you're in town do pop in and see us and have a good mooch about as we've had loads of fantastic new clothes in!

Take care.

KEEPING COOL.......

Sorry there was no blog last week. The reason being that I was on holiday. I always take this week off in May as it's Chelsea Flower Show week, and generally I seem to have good weather! Remember that for next year if you're planning some time off in May!

As it was so hot last week it got me to thinking about how to keep cool......! I got searching on the Internet and came up with these tips. Hope some of them prove helpful to you!

Wear lightweight, light-coloured cotton clothes. Heat is trapped by synthetic fibres, but cotton absorbs perspiration and it's evaporation causes you to feel cooler. The light colours reflect the sun's radiation.

Eat small meals and eat more often. The larger the meal, the more metabolic heat your body creates breaking down the food. Avoid foods that are high in protein, which increase metabolic heat.

Run your wrists under a cool tap for five seconds each every couple of hours. This is because a main vein passes through this area and it helps to cool the blood.

Eat spicy food! Although this may be the last thing you fancy in the hot weather, curries and chillies stimulate heat receptors in the mouth, enhance circulation and cause sweating, which cools the body down.

Women should replace their usual body moisturiser with a cooling Aloe Vera aftersun product to use morning and night. This will help to lower your skin temperature.

Drink Chrysanthemum Tea. Practitioners say chrysanthemum is a cooling herb which clears the head.

Slow down and avoid strenuous activity which will stimulate your body and raise its core temperature. If you must go jogging, do it during the coolest part of the day, which is usually before 7am!

While you're out, keep house curtains drawn to stop it heating up like a greenhouse.

You may be longing for a cold beer or a chilled White wine spritzer. But you should avoid alcohol because it dehydrates the body. You are better off with mineral water or low-sugar fizzy drinks. Also avoid drinks with caffeine such as coffee and colas, these increase the metabolic heat in the body.

Take a tepid bath or shower just below body temperature, especially before bedtime. Although a cold shower might sound more tempting, your body generates heat afterwards to compensate for the heat loss!

Sleep on a feather or down pillow with a cotton pillowcase. Synthetic pillows will retain heat.

Sit back, close your eyes and picture snow. Research has shown that the body reacts to these daydreams, reducing its overall temperature!

So hopefully armed with these tips you'll keep nice and cool on these sweltering days. Keep thinking those cool thoughts.....!!!!!!

Look forward to seeing you all in the shop after my week off. Those cool clothes are flying off the shelves don't wait too long before you come in!!!!!

LOOK WHAT I FOUND..........

INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT SHOPPING.....

Just when I was wondering what to write about this week and coming up with zilch I decided to trawl the net and see what I could find to liven up your week. And here is the result.

I found this on an American website and some of it will make you laugh, some pull your hair out and some make you think "WHAT".....
I came up with a few choice answers, but I'm sure you will come up with your own!

Every woman knows that shopping has a relaxing effect and this is exactly why we love it so much.

1. When women shop for clothes they feel better than when they have to buy kitchenware and domestic goods.

2. Women who shop for over 17 hours a week and spend over £100 are slimmer and healthier than those who spend less time in stores and spend less money.

3. Woman think about shopping as often as men think about sex! 74% of women admit they think about shopping every minute ie 950 times a day. Two out of five women claim they are shoe and bag addicts!

4. Women-shopacholics have fewer wrinkles and feel much younger than women who dislike shopping.

5. The majority of women who love shopping are more confident and suffer less from depression.

6. During an average lifetime a woman spends 25 184 hours 53 minutes shopping.

7. A woman spends around 48 hours 51 minutes looking at shop windows during a year.

8. Women that do shopping a few times a week are usually in a better mood than women who only shop at weekends!

9. Woman spend more money on clothes for a holiday than on the holiday itself.

10. The most bought items by women are jeans, t-shirts and tops.

Well what did you make of those? I have got several answers for all those points!!!!!!!!!
Hope they cheered you up on another dank old day!!

FEELING BLUE.....

Well I expect you are all feeling as blue as I am after the Bank Holiday weekend, how disappointing. I stayed indoors and even lit our log fire, I mean log fires in May!!!

The shop is looking really cheerful at the moment.

Last week we had our new range of jewellery and bags in from Spain, they would certainly brighten up any day.
The necklaces are long with fantastic ceramic beads, glass beads, leather, nickel free metal and fabric. We also have earrings to match the necklaces. Their rings are adjustable which is a godsend, how frustrating is it trying to find a ring that fits? Bangles come in every colour under the sun. And to top it all of they are very reasonably priced!

Our Nancy Mac dresses and cardigans are now here, I've put some of them in the window this week. My favourite fabric is the Poppy, it just makes me think of summer days walking through a corn field with poppies growing around the edge of it. We had this made in three different styles so there is something for everyone and something for every occasion . Pop in and have a look before we sell out, they would be perfect for that drinks evening, wedding, christening, out for dinner or to the races. Hurry up!!!! We cannot reorder the Nancy Mac dresses!

Oohhh and our Owen Barry suede and leather bags from Somerset are to die for! I want one in every colour!! What would my husband say! We regularly get new colours in of these as they make them to order. So if there is a particular colour you are looking for ask and we can check their colour swatches and get one ordered for you. If they have back up stock we get them within a few days, if they have to make them it can take up to four weeks. But they are all made in Somerset!!

I feeling a bit more cheerful now having written about all the lovely things I've got in the shop to look at! Might just have to stop writing and go and try on a pair of Toni Pons espadrilles!!!!!!!

Come on sun we know you're there somewhere!!!!!!

JEANS...............

So do you love yours or hate yours? Do you find the experience of buying them heaven or hell or have you just given up completely?!?!

I had given up buying jeans years ago as my body is just the wrong shape for them, I have a small waist for my hip size, I have an hourglass figure! But now 9 times out of 10 you will find me wearing jeans! Did I have liposuction, go on a drastic starvation diet or keep going to the gym constantly? NO.

'Therapy' started to stock NYDJ and FDJ jeans which are made for women with a curvy figure! So I figured I had nothing to lose but try a pair and see how I got on! Well first of all I had to get my head around the idea that you have to take at least a size smaller than you really are for these jeans to work!! To work, what could that mean??

NYDJ and FDJ have four way stretch and they hold your stomach in and lift your bottom up!! They are miracle workers!!

Well I am a fan and will not wear any other jeans, as the saying goes 'does exactly what it says on the tin'. It does feel a little strange at first because you really do have to struggle to do the zip up, I broke a fingernail the first time I put mine on. But after about 20 minutes you can feel them giving around the waist and the top of the leg and moulding to your body and you do forget that you have them on. And they do make you look a size smaller!! They are miracle workers! I honestly thought I would never find a pair of jeans that would fit me let alone look and feel so good!!! I am a convert!!

When buying any jeans you do have to give yourself plenty of time, do not rush it as you will invariably end up with the wrong size. With the NYDJ and FDJ this is even more important as the fitting is the most time consuming part of getting the right pair. We have been selling these jeans for about 4 years now and we know from experience that for NYDJ and FDJ virgins you need at least an hour for us to fit you correctly. We may come across as being a bit bossy when we are fitting you but as we sell them everyday and we wear them ourselves we do know how much they give and what they should look like when first put on. At the end of the day we want you to go out with the correct size and knowing that you will look fab whenever you wear them. They are not the cheapest of jeans so we really do want you to get the right size first time!

Once you've tried them you will not want to wear any others. Of course they do not suit everyone but do not be disheartened because we do keep other makes of jeans that suit other shapes. So why not pop in when you've got time a good trying on session and see what we can do for you and your jeans!!!!

IT'S RAINING AGAIN......!!!

So we've got another week of 'April Showers' on the way. And what we all really want is some lovely warm weather so we can get out of our Winter clothes that we are all throughly bored of wearing, and into our scrummy summer clothes!! Well at 'Therapy' we have a solution for you......LAYERING!!! Us Brits as a nation do not do the layering look very well, it's not something we think of doing, but just take a look at our chic European cousins, they have it down to a fine art. It's a good way to wear your summer clothes before the weather is really ready for them and you get to inject some fun and vitality into your wardrobe! At 'Therapy' we buy Part Two and Jackpot which are both Scandinavian companies who have done layering for years! You can wear that little linen sleeveless top, just pop a long sleeved t-shirt underneath it and a light weight knit over the top and bobs your uncle! Even a linen dress works well with layering, a pair of jeans or jeggings underneath and worn with the said t-shirt and little knit or jacket and the problem is solved! If you do not feel confident enough to try this look for the first time without a little guidance we are happy to do a 'Gok Wan' on you ( rest assured we will not make you strip off completely!!). If you are confident with the whole layering look we have loads of fab clothes that make the job easy.So hurry down to 'Therapy' in Petworth so you can start wearing those lovely summer clothes even if it does feel like February outside. In 'Therapy' at the moment we have an offer on our Part Two t-shirts, if you buy a top and a long sleeved t-shirt together the price of the long sleeved t-shirt will be £20 instead of £25! I've put a few layering ideas in the window this week, so if you're passing have a look, pop in and have a chat or let us put something together for you! Roll on the warmer weather! I suppose the perfect solution in a perfect world would be sunny and warm during the day and for it to pour with rain at night! Then everyone would be happy!! Take care.

TIME.........

Well Easter has come and gone in a flash and I am now a Gran to twins, born 4 weeks premature!! Oh my god how did that happen, it only seems 5 minutes ago that my son was a little boy, surely he's not old enough to be a father to a daughter and a son!!! All seems to be going well and they both my son and daughter-in-law seem to be very laid back about everything, but oh how times change.....no staying in hospital for a week, even after a c-section and the babies being prem!!!! No bathing for the babies for at least 5 days after they are born, I remember the nurses bathed the baby the day after they were born and then you had to do it with them watching before you left hospital!!! You can pick them up even if they are sleeping! And you can take them out as soon as you want no staying indoors until the babies at 2 weeks old! I really think I must be getting old....do you think policemen are looking younger!!!!!
Well enough of babies and getting old! As the weather has been so dull I've put some cheery colours in the window this week.....

DISASTER........
I am trying to do this on my iPad for the first time,I have taken the photos on the iPad camera but can get them from wherever they are onto the blog? The answer a big fat NO!!!
Well I'll just have to ask a 4 year old how to do it!!!!
If you would like to know what I've put in the window I'm afraid you'll have to make a visit to lovely Petworth and come and have a look!!
Looking forward to seeing you all. We've had loads of fabulous new clothes in so it's worth giving yourself plenty of time so you can have a good mooch and rummage!!

Take care.

BIG ARMS......

I've got big arms and I hate them.......

Big arms are the bane of this nation, not that the nation seems to give a damn. Women unashamedly baring huge arms that need to be covered continually confront us,though I do try to cover mine as much as possible! Do not lay the blame at their feet, it's the manufacturers who should be shot for not knowing their market. They are hell-bent on mass-producing tops and dresses with no sleeves and these in turn are the ones photographed for the magazines. My upper arms could feed a family of six and I find the lack of sleeves depressing!! What the hell are we supposed to wear in the summer??

Some simple guidelines to follow.....

Never wear cap sleeves or a sleeveless vest(unless it's for gardening), these just make your arms look bigger.
Try wearing three-quarter length sleeves as these hide the top of the arms but show off the delicate wrist area.

No puff sleeves or halternecks, both will accentuate the tops of the arms.
Try and find long sleeve blouses with a floaty cuff as these add a touch of delicacy to big arms. Or even go for a small puff on the shoulder seam as these tend to have roomier armholes.

And do not even think about wearing spaghetti straps on a dress or a sleeveless shift dress, these just make your arms look ginormous!!
Instead try and go for fluted sleeves, the more exaggerated the better, think bootleg on a heavier thigh!I know it will be like trying to find a needle in a haystack! So when you find that dress let me know as I will want to get one too!

The thing is that in the summer I want to wear the least amount of clothes possible to keep cool, so the last thing I want to be doing is putting a cardi on top of something to cover my arms, I just get too hot! So come on you designers out there listen to real women with real bodies and make what we want to buy!

THE FOUR SEASONS......

What a change in the weather from last week, we were basking in the warm sunshine of summer and now we appear to be back in Winter! Oh I know why it's gone back to Winter, it's the Easter Holidays and all the children are at home!!! On the subject of Easter are any of you lucky enough to be going away for a few days, if you are we hope you all have a fab time. If by any chance you end up with a hangover here's a little tip......if you know you are going to have a late one with a few too many drinks, prepare for the pain by taking two aspirin before you go out and two more before you go to bed, along with a Berocca in water. Take some almonds with you to eat on the way. They line the stomach. This simple formula will help to cushion the pain of a throbbing hangover. For bloodshot eyes, use Eyedew. Eat a handful of parsley stalks in the morning to take away your dragon's breath. ( Courtesy of Trinny and Susannah).
Whatever you will all be doing over the Easter break let's hope we do not get any snow, though the children would enjoy making snowmen as well as hunting for Easter Eggs!!!

This weeks window reflects the fact that it has got a little cooler with some fab knits, soft cardi/coats and fab bamboo scarves......

Great Tits Too .......

So part one of the 'Boob' blog was about big boobs, so what comes next, yes small boobs or no boobs.
If you are the owner of a chest bereft of boobs,I bet you've longed for boobs, maybe even thought about surgery and tried all the tricks in the book to boost what just isn't there!! Well I'll let you into a secret, us girls with big boobs long to have smaller ones! Why you ask in amazement.....
Because loads of clothes look better worn by flat- chested women, they hang better. You don't always have to wear a bra, how liberating that must feel. You can boost your boobs with padded bras and silicone extras. With big boobs you cannot just make them smaller if you feel like it. We know that sometimes you worry about not being sexy. But you don't need boobs to be alluring!

So let's talk boobs.....

Small or no Boobs....

No low scoop necklines or v-necks.......these accentuate a bony chest and the v just points to the area of disappointment!
Go for high necklines with no sleeves as this draws attention to your arms which are in general lovely and slim. Another good neckline is a slash one with cap sleeves as this broadens the shoulders and creates a wonderful angle to your slim waist.

No empire line tops..... Why wear a top that's designed to enhance the boobs if there is nothing there!!!!
Go for the halterneck or a sleeveless top with detail down the front. Both of these will show off a sexy shoulder which is a good substitute for the cleavage and the detail will cover the chest and make up for what is not there!

No dresses that are skintight and stretchy with spaghetti straps......why because skintight on a skinny top half isn't sexy, it's a disappointment! And again no empire lines!!
Go for high neck and a little see through as tiny boobs can get away with no bra! Backless, a back can be as sexy as a cleavage, especially if you have exfoliated and used fake tan! Another good look is the plunging neckline down to the navel, you just cannot do this with big boobs, so enjoy you lucky ladies with tiny boobs! Very seductive!

No jumpers that are too fine and too low cut.....why because they just cling to what's not there.
Go for those lovely big chunky knits with high necks, they look so elegant.

So ladies rejoice at having small boobs. You will not look matronly before your time, even looking much younger than your years as you get older. You will not get backache from your boobs. You can add to them and you can go braless on those hot summer days and evenings when there's nothing worse than having to wear a bra that just makes you feel even hotter.

So if you have big ones or small ones just remember...

Looking stylish is not about following fashion, losing weight, being rich or going under the knife. It's about dressing to show off what you love about yourself and disguising what you loathe.

At Therapy we now have in stock all our lovely Spring collections and we are there to help you with whatever you need help with, be it looking for the perfect jeans, holiday trousers, t-shirts for everyday or something a little different. Our labels include Part Two, Jackpot, Oui, Avoca, NYDJ, FDJ, Palace and Amazing Woman. We must also let you know that our summer shoes from La Badia and Toni Pons are now in and selling very quickly. So don't leave it too long until you come and visit us.

Happy Mothers Day to all you lovely Mums x

Great Tits......

Whatever you call them you either love yours or hate them! Too big, too small, droopy, all flat at the top, squidge out to the side, lopsided. You name it we've all said it! The list is endless. Also how many people have been scarred by a comment passed years ago during your adolescence when your body hadn't settled down? Far too many I expect going from comments we hear when you lovely ladies come to see us!

So let's talk BOOBS........

Big Boobs..so people may look at you and think you have an amazing pair of boobs!!! You think otherwise! They make you look matronly, bigger than you actually are, not the most comfortable of things, men talk to your boobs and not to you!! The main tool, and one that will become indispensable, is a well fitting bra. Invest whatever it takes to find the best one for you. Hoick them up high and push them forward with underwires and strong straps. Armed with the right bra you are in control of your boobs rather than the other way around!!

There are also ways to disguise big boobs with the clothing you wear.....

No high necklines....... They make your boobs look like they are an extension of your chin and mould them into one big lump. Go for a wide open neckline or a v-neck. Both of these break up the expanse of your chest.

No halter neck or spaghetti-strap dresses........ Hard to wear a bra with these and that's not a good idea, your boobs can creep out the side! Go for a wrap dress which pulls in the waist
and divides and separates your boobs. Or go for a sweetheart neckline as this elongates the neck.

No chunky knits or polo necks......Again the high neck makes your boobs look like a third chin and the chunky wool just makes everything look bigger! Go for a deep v-neck in a fine knit, like cashmere, which will keep you warm whilst the v will divide your boobs. A round neck cardigan with the buttons undone to the top of your bra will show off your stunning cleavage. And last but not least a wrap cardigan which you can tie as tight as you wish with your boobs always being kept apart.

Hopefully this has been of some help with your big boobs and you grow to love them!

Remember.... Looking stylish is not about following fashion, losing weight, being rich or succumbing to the knife. It's about dressing to show off what you love about yourself and hiding what you loathe about your body.

Busy busy busy .......

Well what a busy week we had. The fine spring weather at the end of the week really made everyone feel very springlike! Petworth was really buzzing, and everyone seemed to have a smile on their face. The joys of things to come.
The shop was a hive of activity. We saw so many of our lovely regular customers and met lots of lovely people visiting Petworth for the first time. The new La Badia pumps that arrived at the beginning of the week were one of the most popular items. We get them from a small family firm in Florence Italy and they are gorgeous, fabulous colours and so soft and comfortable. We only have a small quantity of each colour, so I think they are going to sell out quickly. The colours for this spring/summer are Green, Pale Pink, Denim Blue, Pink, Taupe and a 3 colour one of Red, White and Blue.
Hope to see you all next week.
Take care.
