Art Market and Connoisseurship

Art Market and Connoisseurship
By:"Anna Tummers","Koenraad Jonckheere"
Published on 2008 by Amsterdam University Press

The question of whether seventeenth-century painters such as Rembrandt and Rubens were exclusively responsible for the paintings later sold under their names has caused many a heated debate. Despite the rise of scholarship on the history of the art market, much is still unknown about the ways in which paintings were produced, assessed, priced, and marketed during this period, which leads to several provocative questions: did contemporary connoisseurs expect masters such as Rembrandt to paint works entirely by their own hand? Who was credited with the ability to assess paintings as genuine? The contributors to this engaging collection—Eric Jan Sluijter, Hans Van Miegroet, and Neil De Marchi, among them—trace these issues through the booming art market of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, arriving at fascinating and occasionally unexpected conclusions.

What I want you to know is fashion addition?

Fashion is a well known style or training, mainly in clothing, footwear, accessories, makeup, body or furniture. Fashion is a distinguishing and frequently constant tendency in the style in which a person dresses. It is the prevailing styles in behavior and the newest formations of textile designers. Because the more technical term costume is regularly linked to the word "fashion", the use of the sometime has been downgrade to special senses like fancy dress or masquerade wear, while "fashion" mainly means clothing, covering the study of it. Although aspects of fashion can be feminine or masculine, some movement is androgynous.

Clothing fashion

Early Western travelers, whether to Persia, Turkey, India, China, would frequently declare on the nonappearance of change in fashion there. The Japanese Shogun's secretary bragged (not totally definitely) to a Spanish tourist in 1609 that Japanese clothing had not changed in over a thousand years. However, there is sizable conformation in Ming China of quickly changing fashions in Chinese clothing. Changes in costume quickly took place at times of economic or social change, as happen in ancient Rome and the medieval Caliphate, followed by a long period without vital changes. In 8th-century Moorish Spain, the musician Ziyab launch to Córdoba sophisticated clothing-styles form on seasonal and daily fashions from his native Baghdad, modified by his own creativity. Similar changes in fashion happen in the 11th century in the Middle East following the arrival of the Turks, who introduced clothing styles from middle Asia and the Far East.

The beginning in Europe of continual and increasingly quickly change in clothing styles can be justly reliably dated. Historians, including James Laver and Fernand Braudel, date the beginning of Western fashion in clothing to the middle of the 14th century. The most dramatic early change in fashion was an unexpected serious shortening and tightening of the male over-garment from calf-length to hardly casing the bottom, sometimes accompanied with stuffing in the chest to make it look biggest.

The pace of change accelerated greatly in the following century, and women and men's fashion, mainly in the dressing and adorning of the hair, became equally compounded. Art historians are therefore able to use fashion with self possession and precision to date images, quickly to within five years, especially in the case of images from the 15th century. Initially, changes in fashion led to a fragmentation across the upper classes of Europe of what had before been a very similar style of dressing and the subsequent development of particular national styles.

Oh I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside!

A few weeks ago Chris treated Bess and me to a stay at Bailiffscourt Hotel at Climping. If you're not familiar with it then take a look at their website. It is a wonderful collection of old buildings set in beautiful grounds and only a few minutes walk from Climping beach. The staff are warm, the food is sublime and they are not just "dog friendly" they love dogs.

The three of us spent many happy hours on the beach with Bess splashing in the sea. Back in April the weather was still "bracing" but despite this we still returned to the hotel uplifted and energised. (At which point Bess discovered the resident Peacock and spent the rest of our stay eagerly searching for it from our bedroom window - see above!)

And now we have had a glimpse of summer and our wee family has been back to the beach enjoying the ozone & the sparkling sea. A day out to the seaside is a special treat but at Therapy we are inspired by all things nautical! So even when you're tied to your desk you can carry the spirit of the seaside with you.

Since we had a burst of warm weather we've had a run on our fab Toni Pons espadrilles - help! Happily TP in Spain have come to our rescue and are sending out the missing sizes in our best-selling styles. They'll be arriving next week so don't leave it too long to stock up on your summer shoes. This is a new style for us & proving very popular - not too high, made from cool linen, designed to stay firmly on your feet and only £50!

NYDJ have once again excelled with their skinny ankle jeans in lots of colours (not skinny at all, just the perfect fit & length) and their linen/tencel mix stretch trousers which look amazingly flattering and are a nice antedote to the skinny silhouette.

And for proper "nautical" we have an abundance of stripes and fresh navy/white combos to keep you looking effortlessly chic. Add a pair of NYDJ linen trousers & your biggest sunglasses and channel Katherine Hepburn or Coco Chanel...ok, so I seem to end up more Popeye - but I think that's just me!

But that's enough for now - what am I doing on my computer when I could be outside in the sunshine dreaming of the sand between my toes?!
Enjoy the sunshine ladies & we'll see you soon!

Home Remedies For Receding Gums

Receding gums is often one of the first signs that warn you of gum disease. When gums start receding, they create a space between your teeth and the gums and this will cause bacteria to enter the gums and start damaging the tissues

Many reasons like poor dental hygiene, periodontal disease, heredity, hormone imbalances and aggressive brushing of the teeth are some reasons associated with this condition. Receding gums need not always be treated in a dentist’s office. There are some natural remedies that can be used at home in order to control the deterioration of the gums and teeth.

Natural Remedies For Receding Gums
Green Tea
Rich in antioxidants, green tea is known as the elixir of health and can be used for treating and preventing the onset of a number of diseases. Taking green tea will help in reducing the damage caused to the teeth as a result of receding gums.

Green tea reduces inflammation of the gums and also helps in destroying the bacteria in the mouth that can cause periodontal problems. Take a cup of green tea in the morning to keep your gums and teeth strong.

How to be a loving daughter with parents

Being a daughter is difficult. Hormones, bullying, and peer pressure don't help either. If you are tired of your old ways and wish to become a better, morally upright daughter this is the article for you.

Make a list of things you might be doing that your parents like. Likewise, identify what you are doing well. You'll want to keep on doing those good things, or do them even better.

Try to fix the problematic things. For example, if you don't show your parents enough love, make the effort every morning to give both of your parents a hug and tell them that you love them. Resolve any issues with your family and friends. Realize that you may be wrong and owe someone an apology.

Spend time with your parents. Get close to them and be yourself around them. For example: Go to the mall and shop with them now and again, or ask your mom to go have a coffee with you at the nearest cafe. This bonding can strengthen your relationship.

The Bridge Ladies

The Bridge Ladies
By:"Betsy Lerner"
Published on 2016-05-03 by HarperCollins

A fifty-year-old Bridge game provides an unexpected way to cross the generational divide between a daughter and her mother. Betsy Lerner takes us on a powerfully personal literary journey, where we learn a little about Bridge and a lot about life. After a lifetime defining herself in contrast to her mother’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” generation, Lerner finds herself back in her childhood home, not five miles from the mother she spent decades avoiding. When Roz needs help after surgery, it falls to Betsy to take care of her. She expected a week of tense civility; what she got instead were the Bridge Ladies. Impressed by their loyalty, she saw something her generation lacked. Facebook was great, but it wouldn’t deliver a pot roast. Tentatively at first, Betsy becomes a regular at her mother’s Monday Bridge club. Through her friendships with the ladies, she is finally able to face years of misunderstandings and family tragedy, the Bridge table becoming the common ground she and Roz never had. By turns darkly funny and deeply moving, The Bridge Ladies is the unforgettable story of a hard-won—but never-too-late—bond between mother and daughter.

Fashion at the Edge

Fashion at the Edge
By:"Caroline Evans"
Published on 2003 by Yale University Press

Caroline Evans analyses the work of experimental designers, the images of fashion photographers, and the spectacular fashion shows that developed in the final decade of the twentieth century to arrive at a new understanding of fashion's dark side and what it signifies? Drawing on a variety of literary and theoretical perspectives - from Marx to Benjamin - Evans argues that fashion plays a leading role in constructing images and meanings during periods of rapid change. She shows persuasively that fashion stands at the very centre of the contemporary, where it voices some of Western culture's deepest concerns.
